FAQs

Where are you located?

The Lamp-Post Center is located in Lexington, KY & provides in-person and telehealth counseling/therapy services to all KY residents.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes! Telehealth is an option when distance or medical limitations are factors. However, whenever possible, we recommend in-person. The Lamp-Post Center is a special space designed to spark creativity and hope. We would love to host you, but we will always respect client preference in choosing between telehealth or in-person.

Coaching & consulting services are offered via telehealth nationally & internationally.

Do you accept insurance?

The Lamp-Post is private pay. While we do not accept insurance we can accept HSA cards & issue Superbills for counseling/therapy services for KY residents who want to submit for reimbursement directly with your insurance provider.

Do you offer a sliding fee scale?

Unlike the traditional method of having a one-size-fits-all income-driven sliding fee scale, Lamp-Post understands that income level and available funds don't always go hand in hand. Because of this, Lamp-Post allows any client without access to HSA / FSA funds or the ability to submit to their insurance for reimbursement the option to request a personalized rate that works for them and their circumstances. No rate revision request is ever declined.

To our knowledge, we are the only personalized reduced rate system in Lexington. We are committed to never turning any client away due to cost. For more information, please contact us directly.

What should I expect?

The Lamp-Post Center is a one-of-a-kind place! Therapy doesn’t have to be depressing, beige, and heavy.

Expect to relax. When you arrive, enjoy some Louis Armstrong, browse a magazine, have a coffee, and check out our collection of vintage books. Take a load off.

Expect to get the tools to start making positive changes in your life. Many clients who come to The Lamp-Post have been in therapy before but were looking for something more directive where measurable outcomes could be seen. While ultimately, you are the one doing the heavy lifting of practicing what is discussed in session, our team is equipped to give you the insights, practical tools, and encouragement to go from “stuck” to momentum.

Expect to laugh. Yes, we will deal with some seriously tough stuff, BUT the team The Lamp-Post make it fun. We all have gone through the therapy process ourselves to deal with the curve balls life have thrown our way. We know first hand that one of the best medicines for a heavy heart is a good laugh, and we love to create a therapeutic space that fosters joy along the way.

Do you have areas of special focus?

While the providers at The Lamp-Post are all trained to interface with mental health conditions present in the DSM we have several special areas of focus:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Our OCD clients get better. Period. Many clients come to us having been misdiagnosed due to their OCD symptoms manifesting in less commonly recognized ways, such as “Pure O” OCD, or received treatment that actually worsened their symptoms. Having suffered for years and some struggling with suicidal thoughts when they first started at The Lamp-Post, we consistently see our OCD clients get better and go on to live full and productive lives no longer dominated by OCD’s demands. If you suffer from OCD, we know firsthand how debilitating and isolating it can be. All the providers at The Lamp-Post are formally diagnosed with OCD ourselves and have worked the steps we walk you through that led to healing in our own lives. You can get better. We can help you do it!

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): While many practices provide services for ASD-diagnosed children with high support needs, there are not many therapy practices in Lexington that work with adults and older adolescents who have ASD, but their symptoms and struggles are not always apparent to an outside observer. Many of our clients report experiencing feelings of isolation, executive functioning struggles, loneliness, and having had negative therapeutic experiences with providers who sought to counsel away their ASD symptoms vs. partner with the neurodiverse individual to harness the strengths of a neurodiverse mind and provide tools to navigate a world that speaks a different “language.” Our neurodiverse clients regularly report feeling heard and understood in a way previously not experienced in other therapy settings. We get neurodiversity. In addition to individual work, we regularly work with neurodiverse (NT/ND) couples and families to bridge the communication gap that can be present when one member is neurotypical and the other is neurodiverse.

  • Substance & Behavioral Addiction: Addiction, both in terms of substance and behaviors, is a highly common struggle, cutting across all age and demographic groups. Addiction takes on many shapes and sizes in terms of severity and impact on daily life, but despite its frequency in our society, it remains highly stigmatized. We are all about destigmatizing these struggles. Every dysfunctional behavior serves a function, so there is no judgment on how or why addiction developed in your life. But there is hope, and change is possible. Our experienced clinicians are honored to walk with you into reaching our goals in terms of changing your relationship with addiction in whatever form it takes in your life.
